  1. Fly Away

Every father dreads the day his precious daughter "flies the coop". At first she walks down a few doors to a neighborhood friend's house to play; time passes, and she hops on her bike and rides down the block and out of sight; eventually she hops in the car and moves out on her own... but she'll always be close to his heart as 'daddy's little girl'. This acoustic-based, heartfelt piece captures it perfectly.

Lyrics

Sleepy eyed, down the stairs
Lazy smile, tangled hair
Daylight breaks on a crayon world
One more picture / Daddy’s girl awakes

Swing set turns in our back yard
Back and forth, I play my part
First friend calls on the telephone
Out the gate and on her own

And I watch from the window as she walks away
A little bit further every day
She wants to fly, fly away
When she leaves
She’ll always stay in my heart

Crazy smile and her mama’s eyes
Watch her grow, see her rise
On that bike I taught her to ride
Down the block and out of sight

And I watch from the window as she rides away
A little bit further every day
She wants to fly, fly away
When she leaves
She’ll always stay in my heart

And she wants to fly, fly away
And she wants to fly, fly away
She will always stay, always stay
When it’s time to fly, fly away

Someday soon will be her time
Eighteen years the blink of an eye
She’ll move on to her new life
In a car, off she’ll drive

And I’ll watch from the window as she drives away
A little bit further every day
She wants to fly, fly away
When she leaves
She’ll always stay in my heart

She’s written her name in my heart
Way down deep, the deepest part
She’ll always stay, always stay in my heart
